NEW DELHI: The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in creating controversial and misleading videos has sparked a fresh debate in India, especially in the context of political leaders and their interactions with historical figures. Recently, AI-generated videos featuring political leaders such as Amit Shah, Arvind Kejriwal, and Akhilesh Yadav have gone viral, leading to widespread discussions about the ethical implications of AI in public discourse.
One of the most talked-about videos is a clip featuring AI-generated interactions with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. In the video, Ambedkar is shown demanding an apology from Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, in a tone that has angered many. The clip was shared by a Twitter user with the caption, โThis fool will have to apologize,โ accompanied by a hashtag calling for Ambedkarโs justice. The video, though clearly manipulated by AI, has nonetheless stirred significant attention, with viewers reacting to what they perceive as a disrespectful portrayal of a revered figure.

Similarly, another AI-generated video depicted Aam Admi Partyโs National convener Arvind Kejriwal engaging in a conversation with Ambedkar, where, after some playful banter, the interaction took an absurd turn. The video shows Ambedkar slapping Kejriwal in a comically exaggerated manner. The video quickly gained traction online, with many users commenting on the misuse of AI in a political context. โAIโs misuse is dangerous. Itโs not a tool for humor or to boost numbers, as some in the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) seem to think,โ tweeted Harsh Vardhan Tripathi, commenting on the absurdity of the video.

In yet another disturbing video, AI technology was used to create an image of Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav being slapped by a virtual version of Ambedkar. The clip, shared widely, shows a highly unrealistic and degrading portrayal of Yadav. While some see it as an attempt to create humor, others are concerned about the growing trend of using AI to manipulate and discredit public figures.
