New Delhi: Former Delhi Police Commissioner SN Srivastava, while speaking with The New Indian on the occasion of five years of the Delhi Riot, said that he was sure and confident that the killer of Head Constable Ratan Lal, who lost his life in the riot, will be convicted.
โWe are very sure about securing convictions. Our chargesheet will lead to the conviction of all the accused,โ Srivastava stated.
He addressed a meeting and explained how protesters deliberately sought confrontation (from Hindus) to give it a communal colour.
Srivastava further explained how the riot was a larger conspiracy hatched by Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Tahir Hussain and others.
He said that Initially it was happening that only Muslims were protesting and none were bothered and hence the protestors wanted to confront Hindus and other groups.
And for that Chakka Jam was the main thing to create confrontation with other groups (Hindu). Nothing was happening with their protest and hence they wanted Chakka Jam.
Delhi riot took place on four days February 23, 24, 25 and 26 in 2020 at the time when Trump visited India during his first tennure.
In this riot 53 people were killed, 748 suffered injuries and 1595 properties were destroyed.
Experiment of Riot:
The protestors created a riot like situation on December 14, 2020.
This first riot happened in Jamia during which students and outsiders were involved.
Later, they tried it on 17 December in Seelampur but failed. The protestors tried to create a riot in Daryaganj too on December 21, 2020, but failed.
Srivastava said that then they realised that confrontation with other groups especially with Hindus was a must.
They planned it in 4 Stages:
According to Srivastava once it was clear that they needed to confront other groups they made a strategy to conduct it in four stages.
โTill December there was no Confrontation with Hindus and hence the protestors engineered the confrontation with Hindus. They planned a huge Chakka Jam all over the capital to disturb people so that they could confront them,โ said Mr Srivastava.
Srivastava claimed that the people who were sitting in protest had weapons, they wanted riot, they pelted stones and petrol bombs on police , also fired upon the police.
Initial phase: The protestors misinformed others to create a cause , to form a communal group and create a riot like situation.
Second Phase: The protestors started doing mobilisation. Across the capital there were 25 places where they mobilised people to sit on strike. Mostly it was happening in Muslim dominated areas.
Third Phase: It was an Escalation Phase. During the visit of Trump, they started confronting normal people to escalate the situation.
Fourth Phase, Chakka Jam: And in the end, they did Chakka Jam all over the Delhi.
Political parties were also fueling it
Because the BJP was in the government, most of muslims groups were not happy. Few political parties too wanted to uproot BJP from the power. On 4 Dec 2019 CAA was introduced. They got this as an opportunity. They wanted to achieve their hidden agendas.
A few groups like All India Majlis-e-Mushaears, Jamat-e-Islmai (which is also in bangladesh) reached Jamia to mobilize Students.
Srivastava said that Umar Khalid was one of the main persons who hatched a conspiracy. Khalid is the son of SQR Iliyas, who is from Jamat-e-Islami.
Khalid, Nadem Khan, Khalid Saifiand Sharjeel Imam started mobilizing students. For mobilisation they created group Muslims students of JNU and Students of Jamia.
On December 8, 2019 after introduction of CAA bill, these all met In Jangpura area for the first time. They decided that they will protest in Jamia and in Shahin Bagh.
For the success of the protest, protestors wanted death:
During the first riot in Jamia and Shahin Bagh around 100 police personnel and 41 people were injured, but no one died, the protestors wanted success which was the death of anyone for sure.
On WhatsApp they formed two groups, Delhi Protest Solidarity Group (DPSG) and Hum Bharat Ke log for National Level protest.
They wanted more students from the Jamia Millia Islamia. And then Jamia Awareness Campaign Committee also formed.
DPSG was assisting them, and was providing funds and other logistics support.
Later as many as 12 meetings were held In Lodhi road to create riot like situation.
On 23 Jan, 2020, They met in Seelampur and decided to create a riot in Seelampur.
Meanwhile, they took out a Mahila Ekta Yatra and used their Childrens too.
I donโt want deaths of Muslims, one Protestor:
One of the protestors who was a muslim, learned that during riot people will be killed and he asked all not to do that as he didnโt want deaths of anyone. He kept on opposing all the conspirators. โYou all are outsiders and ultimately we the locals will die,โ he shouted them during last meeting Srivastava claimed.
The police also accessed a whatsapp group chat of DPSG Group.
Muslim women lied and brought from Jahangir puri:
The protestors brought 300 Muslim women and children at Jafrabad from Jehangir puri area. All were told that they would be taken to Shahin Bagh and were brought to Jafrabad Metro Station as per plan.
As till January 23 no one was killed in the protest, the protestors destroyed all the CCTV cameras of the North East Delhi.
