NEW DELHI: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge convened a pre-poll preparedness meeting on Tuesday, August 13. Kharge highlighted key issues such as unbridled unemployment, uncontrolled inflation, and the alleged nexus between SEBI and Adani, which will form the basis of their national campaign.

Kharge convened a gathering of All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretaries, In-charges, and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Presidents to discuss organizational matters and address pressing national issues ahead of the upcoming elections.

During the meeting, Kharge expressed grave concern over the alleged nexus between the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Adani Group. Highlighting the potential risks to small investors in the stock market, he called for a thorough investigation into the matter. Kharge demanded that the Modi government seek the resignation of the SEBI chairperson and constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the allegations.

Addressing the growing challenges of unemployment, inflation, and dwindling household savings, Kharge noted that these issues have severely impacted poor and middle-class citizens. He accused the current government of betraying these vulnerable groups. “The poor and middle class have been betrayed,” he said.

Kharge also raised concerns about the continued assault on the Indian Constitution, particularly in the context of caste-based discrimination. He reiterated the Congress party’s demand for a caste census. “The attack on the Constitution continues unabated. Caste census is the demand of the people,” Kharge posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Congress President reaffirmed the party’s commitment to securing legal guarantees for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers. Additionally, he called for the scrapping of the Agnipath Scheme, which he described as an unjust imposition on patriotic youth seeking employment in the armed forces.

Kharge also highlighted the alarming frequency of train derailments and the resulting suffering of millions of passengers.

“Climate-related disasters and collapsing infrastructure are also a cause of concern,” Kharge underscored, emphasizing the need for robust infrastructure and disaster management systems, particularly in light of the increasing climate-related disasters across the country.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and K.C. Venugopal were among the Congress leaders who attended the meeting.
