NEW DELHI: The second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly election witnessed active participation from political leaders and citizens. BJP state president and Rajdhanwar candidate Babulal Marandi voted in his native village, Kodaibank, Giridih district.

Confident of a BJP-led alliance victory, Marandi highlighted the electorate’s focus on addressing issues like employment, law and order, corruption, and infiltration. He dismissed JMM’s prospects, asserting that the current government was losing ground.

In Rajdhanwar, Marandi faces a divided opposition, with JMM’s Nizamuddin Ansari and CPI(ML)’s Rajkumar Yadav challenging the INDIA bloc’s unity.

Amar Kumar Bauri, BJP candidate from Chandankiyari, also cast his vote, urging record turnout to safeguard Jharkhand’s “roti, beti aur maati” (livelihood, daughters, and soil). He stressed the need for a transparent and progressive government. Similarly, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey in Godda encouraged citizens to embrace the “festival of democracy” by voting enthusiastically.

CPI(ML) candidate Vinod Singh from Bagodar cast his vote in Khambra, voicing hope for a secular and welfare-driven government.

The New Indian team, covering the elections across key locations, including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Deoghar, and Bokaro live reported during the first phase, focusing on Ranchi and Jamshedpur, while the second phase coverage shifted to Deoghar and Bokaro to provide an on-ground perspective.

As of 11 AM, over 31% of the 1.23 crore eligible voters had cast their ballots across 38 constituencies. Polling began at 7 AM at 14,218 booths in 12 districts and will continue until 5 PM in most areas, with 31 booths closing at 4 PM. Officials confirmed that voters in queues at closing time would still be allowed to vote.

Results for the elections, which include 38 constituencies in this phase, will be announced on November 23.
