JAMMU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil and lay the foundation for numerous developmental initiatives, totaling over Rs 32,000 crore, during his visit to Jammu today.
The commencement and groundwork ceremony of projects, issuance of appointment letters, engagement with beneficiaries of the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu’ program, and an address to a huge gathering by Prime Minister Modi are planned at MA Stadium, Jammu.
Prime Minister Modi will allocate to the nation several railway initiatives in J&K, encompassing the novel rail route connecting Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan (48 kilometres) and the recently electrified Baramulla-Srinagar-Banihal-Sangaldan section (185.66 kilometres). He will inaugurate the inaugural electric train in the Valley and initiate the train service linking Sangaldan Station and Baramulla Station.
The activation of the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan segment holds importance as it incorporates the use of Ballast Less Track (BLT), enhancing the travel experience for passengers. Furthermore, this section houses India’s lengthiest transportation tunnel, T-50 (12.77 kilometres), situated between Khari-Sumber. These railway initiatives aim to enhance connectivity, uphold environmental sustainability, and stimulate comprehensive economic development in the region.

Following the initiation of various projects, the Prime Minister will deliver a massive address at MA Stadium, marking the commencement of the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections slated for April-May. The BJP secured victory in Jammu and Udhampur Parliamentary seats consecutively in 2014 and 2019. This time, with the Paharis granted ST status, the party aims for a third victory in the Anantnag-Poonch-Rajouri seat.
The Prime Minister is set to unveil the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Vijaypur in the Samba district. The establishment, for which the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone in February 2019, is under development through the Central sector scheme, Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. Additionally, Modi will initiate the groundwork for a fresh terminal building at Jammu Airport. Covering an expansive 40,000 sqm area, the modernized terminal will offer advanced facilities, accommodating around 2000 passengers during peak hours.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister is slated to initiate the groundwork for significant road initiatives, encompassing two segments (44.22 kilometres) of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway linking Jammu to Katra; the second phase for the four-laning of Srinagar Ring Road; five sections for the enhancement of the 161 km long Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri stretch of NH-01; and the development of Kulgam Bypass & Pulwama bypass on NH-444.

PM Modi will additionally initiate the groundwork for a project aimed at constructing a CUF (Common User Facility) Petroleum depot in Jammu. This cutting-edge, fully automated depot, budgeted at approximately Rs 677 crore, will boast a storage capacity of about 100,000 KL. It is designed to store Motor Spirit (MS), High-Speed Diesel (HSD), Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO), Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), Ethanol, Bio-diesel, and winter-grade HSD.
The Prime Minister will also unveil and initiate the groundwork for numerous development initiatives surpassing Rs 3150 crore, aimed at enhancing civic infrastructure and providing public amenities throughout Jammu and Kashmir. These projects encompass road developments, bridges, grid stations, receiving stations, transmission lines, common effluent treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, several degree college constructions, an intelligent traffic management system in Srinagar city, a modern Narwal Fruit Mandi, a drug testing laboratory at Kathua, and transit accommodation comprising 224 flats in Ganderbal and Kupwara.
The projects set for the initiation of groundwork include the establishment of five new Industrial Estates spanning Jammu and Kashmir; the construction of a Data Centre/Disaster Recovery Centre for the Integrated Command and Control Centre of Jammu Smart City; the enhancement of Transport Nagar at Parimpora Srinagar; the improvement of 62 road projects and 42 bridges. Additionally, there is a project dedicated to the development of transit accommodation, comprising 2816 flats at nine locations in Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara, Shopian, and Pulwama districts, among other endeavours.
