Summary

On the 3rd day of the eighth Delhi Assembly Session, Najafgarh MLA Neelam Pehalwan proposed renaming the constituency to Nahargarh.

NEW DELHI: The third day of the inaugural session of the newly formed eighth Delhi Assembly has been marked by significant developments and protests.

Ahead of the Assembly session, AAP MLA and former Chief Minister Atishi accused the BJP of obstructing her partyโ€™s MLAs from entering the House.

In a post on X, Atishi alleged, โ€œThe BJP has crossed all limits of dictatorship. AAP MLAs were suspended for three days for raising โ€˜Jai Bhimโ€™ slogans, and now, they are being denied entry to the Vidhan Sabha premises. This has never happened in the history of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, where elected MLAs are barred from entering the House.โ€

In response, AAP leaders staged a protest, chanting slogans like โ€œtaanashahi nahi chalegiโ€ and โ€œhitler shahi nahi chalegi,โ€ accusing the BJP of undemocratic practices.

Meanwhile, Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma announced that an investigation will be conducted into why CCTV cameras were not installed in eight constituencies, all represented by BJP MLAs, during the previous AAP government.

Verma assured that these constituencies would receive priority for CCTV installations.

BJPโ€™s Vishwas Nagar MLA, OP Sharma, raised the issue in the House, claiming that no CCTV cameras were installed in his constituency during the AAP tenure.

Sharma also demanded a probe by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), supported by other BJP MLAs who criticized the AAP government for its alleged neglect.

In another development, Najafgarh MLA Neelam Pehalwan proposed renaming the constituency to Nahargarh.

Verma also addressed the โ€œSheesh Mahalโ€ controversy, pledging to investigate the expenses related to the renovation of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwalโ€™s official residence, which was dubbed โ€œSheesh Mahalโ€ by the BJP.

He stated, โ€œThe lavish Chief Ministerโ€™s office, built three years ago under the AAP government, will be investigated to determine how much money was spent on its reconstruction and on what basis officials granted permission for such expenses.โ€

He added, โ€œThe Chief Ministerโ€™s residence at 6 Flagstaff Road, dubbed โ€˜Sheesh Mahalโ€™ by the BJP, will also be examined to assess how much money the previous government allocated for its renovation.โ€

Lastly, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will move a motion to propose BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht as the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly.

The motion will be seconded by MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and supported by Gajender Singh Yadav.
