NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals have appointed former England legend Kevin Pietersen as their team mentor for the upcoming IPL season. The 44-year-old marks his return to the franchise, having played for them across two IPL seasons.
Pietersen will be part of a strong Delhi Capitals support staff, which includes Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao, Head Coach Hemang Badani, Assistant Coach Matthew Mott, and Bowling Coach Munaf Patel.

Welcoming Pietersen, Chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi said, โKP has been a Delhi boy. His experience and passion will be invaluable.โ Co-owner Parth Jindal added, โKP was one of the best modern-day batters. His knowledge will help our players achieve success.โ

Pietersen expressed his excitement, saying, โI have incredible memories with this franchise. Even as a broadcaster, I have always supported this team. I have a great relationship with the owners and the Delhi Capitals fans. When this opportunity came up, it was an easy YES for me.โ
The former England captain also highlighted his connection with Venugopal Rao, who was his teammate during the 2012 IPL season. โReconnecting with Venu and working with this fantastic squad is an exciting challenge. Iโm looking forward to helping the team win the ultimate prize,โ he added.

Delhi Capitals have built a strong backroom staff for the IPL 2025 season. Pietersen will work alongside experienced names like Matthew Mott, who was recently appointed as the teamโs assistant coach.
Mott is a highly successful coach, having led England to the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. He also coached Australiaโs womenโs team to two T20 World Cup titles, one ODI World Cup, and four Ashes series victories. His tenure included a record 26-match ODI winning streak.
Pietersen, who played 36 IPL matches and scored 1,001 runs, brings valuable experience to Delhi Capitals. The South African-born cricketer had an illustrious international career, scoring 8,181 Test runs and 4,440 ODI runs.
With Kevin Pietersen back in a new role, Delhi Capitals are aiming to clinch their first-ever IPL title.
