NEW DELHI: In his election affidavit for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections scheduled on February 5, Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, has disclosed 14 criminal cases against him. This includes a case related to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Amethi and others linked to alleged irregularities in Delhi’s Excise Policy.
The latest disclosure shows an increase from the 13 criminal cases mentioned in his 2020 affidavit. Kejriwal reported cash holdings of ₹40,000, while his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, declared ₹32,000.
His movable assets are valued at ₹3.46 lakh, and Sunita’s at ₹1 crore. In terms of immovable assets, Kejriwal owns property worth ₹1.7 crore, and Sunita owns property valued at ₹1.5 crore. Compared to 2020, the couple’s asset portfolio has seen significant changes.
In his previous affidavit, Kejriwal’s movable assets stood at ₹9.95 lakh, while Sunita’s were worth ₹57 lakh. Their immovable properties were then valued at ₹1.77 crore and ₹1 crore, respectively.
Notably, Kejriwal does not own a car or house. Sunita, however, owns a 2017 Maruti Baleno and jewellery worth ₹25.9 lakhs, including 320 grams of gold. The couple has no liabilities.
For the financial year 2023-24, Kejriwal reported an income of ₹7,21,530 from his legislative salary. Sunita, a former government official, earned ₹14,10,740 as pension income. The affidavit also lists a Gurugram house owned by Sunita.
Kejriwal is contesting from the prestigious New Delhi constituency, which is witnessing a triangular battle. He faces formidable challenges from Parvesh Verma of the BJP, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, and Sandeep Dikshit of the Congress, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
