Kejriwal gets insulin inside the jail amid health controversy

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was given insulin inside the Tihar Jail on Monday over the ongoing controversy over his health. This comes after the AAP leader criticised the jail administration for not providing him with the necessary health assistance despite his multiple requests.

Later, his party alleged that not giving Kejriwal insulin was a conspiracy to harm him. Reacting to which his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, speaking at the opposition INDIA bloc rally in Ranchi on Sunday, said that her husband, Arvind Kejriwal, is a sugar patient, and by denying insulin, the Modi government wants to kill her husband in jail.

According to media reports, his insulin level went to 320, which is way higher than the normal range of 70–100. During her speech, she was also heard saying, Politics is a very dirty thing, there is a camera in his food, Every morsel is being monitored while repeating the slogan ‘Jail ke taale tutenge, Arvind Kejriwal, Hemant Soren chhutenge,’ which translates to the locks of the jail will be broken and Arvind Kejriwal and Hemant Soren will be set free.

Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav has also shown support for Kejriwal on his social media account ‘X’. He wrote, “This is unbelievable news that Kejriwal is denied insulin in jail”, citing health as his fundamental right. On the other hand, BJP leaders like Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed on Monday that Kejriwal was staging a drama to gain sympathy.

Sirsa said, “After the liquor scam, now the sugar scam!!! Kejriwal is deliberately eating sweet things in jail so that his sugar level increases and he can get out of jail on medical bail.” Previously, the Enforcement Directorate accused Kejriwal of consuming sugary foods regularly in an attempt to exploit his health for legal advantage. Whereas, Kejriwal has denied these accusations and called them petty. He instead accused the agency of politicising the issue.

The Delhi Chief Minister has been detained in Tihar jail since April 1 after being taken into custody by the Enforcement Department (ED) on March 21 over a money-laundering case. He was accused of being involved in the Delhi government’s now-cancelled excise policy and taking bribes. On May 15, the Delhi High Court will consider Mr. Kejriwal’s appeal against the charges that the investigation agency served him with.
