NEW DELHI: In a bizarre statement, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said that cloudbursts in India are being engineered by foreign powers to destabilise the country.

“There is a new phenomenon called cloudburst. This is what happened in the Godavari region which caused the flood. There are reports that these cloudbursts are a conspiracy by foreign sources,” the Telangana Chief Minister said while visiting the flood-affected areas of the state.

“First, they did a cloudburst in the Leh-Ladakh region, then in Uttarakhand. Now they are doing the same in the Godavari region. There are theories that these cloudbursts are being done to destabilise India,” KCR said.

Union culture minister G Kishan Reddy, who is an MP from Secunderabad, subtly hit back at the Chief Minister for making an irresponsible statement. He demanded that KCR, as CM is popularly called, submit all the proofs he has with the Union government so that the Union government could investigate it.

In a series of tweets, Reddy wrote “The Chief Minister of Telangana Sri K Chandrasekhara Rao Garu recently made a sensational statement that the recent Godavari floods in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and the floods of Ladakh and Uttarakhand were orchestrated by a foreign hand by deliberately creating cloudbursts.”

“The Government of India takes such statements very seriously, especially when levelled by a sitting Chief Minister. Therefore, I request CM KCR to furnish all information and the Government of India will investigate this with utmost seriousness,” Reddy added.
