Two terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a major tragedy was averted as the security forces recovered over 30 kg of IED in Srinagar.
“#Encounter has started at Poshkreeri area of #Anantnag. Police and security forces are on the job,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
The encounter broke out after police, RR and CRPF cordoned off Poshkreeri village in Anantnag on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the slain terrorists were affiliated with the proscribed terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. They have been identified as Danish Bhat aka Kokab Duree and Basharat Nabi.
The two, police said, were involved in the killing of one Territorial Army personnel in April last year and two civilians in May last year in Jablipora.
“Terrorists identified as Danish Bhat, aka Kokab Duree, and Basharat Nabi, both affiliated with the proscribed terror group HM, were killed. Both were involved in the killing of one TA personnel, Saleem, on April 9, 2021 & killing of two civilians on May 29, 2021, in Jablipora,” Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir Vijay Kumar said.
Last week, three terrorists affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were gunned down in an encounter in the Nagbal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.
“The 3 killed #terrorists have been identified as local terrorists of LeT namely Danish Khursheed Bhat, Tanveer Wani and Towseef Bhat. They were involved in several #terror crime cases. Terrorist Danish was involved in #recruitment of youth into terror ranks in Shopian,” the ADGP said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, police on Tuesday said that they averted a major tragedy by recovering a 35-35 kg weighing IED in the orchards of the Khonmoh area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.
“On a specific input regarding presence of militants in Khanmoh area of Srinagar, a joint ops was launched by Police & 50RR. During search of Orchards area, an IED weighing 30-35Kgs recovered. Bomb disposal squad called on spot. IED is being destroyed in situ,” Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.
