Kashmir Police Seize Cache Of Small Arms Meant For Targeted Killings

SRINAGAR: A huge cache of arms and ammunition was on Tuesday recovered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army in the border town of Tangdhar in Kupwara district, which was meant to carry out targeted killings in the Valley.

The arms including 10 pistols, five grenades, 17 pistol magazines, and rounds of pistols were seized in Tad village of Tangdhar on Tuesday morning.

“Kupwara Police along with Army recovered huge cache of arms & ammunition including 10 pistols, 17 pistol magazines, 54 pistol rounds & 5 grenades, during a search operation at Hajam Mohallah, Tad, Karnah.  Case registered. Investigation in progress,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

The joint party of the police and the Army had gone to the area to recover narcotics. “We had information about smuggling of narcotics,” Yougal Manhas, SSP of Kupwara told The New Indian.

“It came from across the border two-three days ago,” he added.

The officer said that the police haven’t arrested anybody so far in connection with the seizure. “We are investigating and I think weapons to get supplied to parts of valley.”

“Acting on specific information that a huge cache of arms and ammunition has been smuggled in from across the LoC, a police team led by SHO Police Station Karnah Mudaser Ahmad and PSI Ayush Sharma, Incharge Police Post Taad along with local Army unit undertook a search operation in general area of police post Taad,” the police said.

It looks like, the police said, is a new consignment smuggled for terror activities in Kashmir Valley. “However timely action of police and local Army thwarted nefarious designs of adversary of committing innocent killings at the hands of terrorist in the valley,” the police said.

It is worth mentioning that terrorists have used pistols to carry out targetted killing in the recent past, suggesting a new trend of the use of small weapons by terror outfits instead of AK-47 assault rifles.

Most of the attacks, as per official sources, were conducted by hybrid terrorists — a new breed of terrorist who are not on the list of security agencies.

Several pistols have been seized from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and along the Pakistan border, indicating that the neighbouring country is focusing on pushing pistols instead of heavy weaponry into India for carrying out terror activities.

Nearly a week ago, Anantnag Police recovered one short barrel AK-56, two AK mag, two pistols, three pistol mag, six hand grenades, 44 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 58 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, and one sling from a vehicle near Mehmoodabad bridge Dooru, during its night domination.
