NEW DELHI: Kapil Mishra emerged victorious in the Karawal Nagar constituency in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. This is his second victory in the same assembly constituency, albeit for a different party.

Mishra, who contested the assembly elections on a BJP ticket, secured 107,367 votes, claiming 53.39% of the total vote share. He defeated AAPโ€™s Manoj Kumar Tyagi by a significant margin of 23,355 votes, marking a strong return to the Delhi Assembly.

Mishra had previously represented the seat as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA in 2015 and was appointed as Delhiโ€™s Water Minister in the Arvind Kejriwal-led government. However, his tenure was short-lived as he was removed from the cabinet in 2017 after leveling corruption allegations against AAP leadership. By 2019, he was disqualified as an MLA under the anti-defection law due to his growing proximity to the BJP.

With this win, Mishra reclaims his stronghold in Karawal Nagar, a constituency that has historically been a BJP bastion, except for his tenure with AAP in 2015. The seat was previously held by BJPโ€™s Mohan Singh Bisht in 2020, who had narrowly defeated AAPโ€™s Durgesh Pathak by 8,223 votes.

In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Mishra contested from the Model Town constituency on a BJP ticket but faced defeat.

Mishra is known for his strong Hindutva stance and has been at the center of multiple political controversies, including his inflammatory speeches ahead of the 2020 Delhi riots. His transition from AAP to BJP has been marked by vocal criticism of the Kejriwal government and alignment with BJPโ€™s nationalist narrative.

In the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Kapil Mishra secured 107,367 votes, defeating AAPโ€™s Manoj Tyagi, who garnered 84,012 votes. Congress candidate Dr. PK Mishra finished a distant third, managing only 3,921 votes, while 709 votes were cast for NOTA.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a resounding victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, defying all speculations and widening its lead over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which had governed the national capital for a decade.
