NEW DELHI: BJP leader Kapil Mishra, in an exclusive interview with The New Indian’s Executive Editor Rohan Dua, criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi Marlena’s recent crowdfunding appeal for her election campaign.

Mishra contrasted Atishi’s approach to his own efforts in helping families of victims like Kanhaiya Lal, Umesh Kohla, and Dilbar Negi, emphasizing the difference between raising money for genuine causes and personal political campaigns.

Mishra emphasized “Atishi is asking people for money to contest elections, claiming it’s ‘uncorrupt’ money. But what does that imply about Arvind Kejriwal’s campaign funds? If Kejriwal doesn’t seek public donations, then where does his money come from?”

Mishra further pointed out inconsistencies, stating, “If Atishi doesn’t have money to contest elections but Kejriwal does, what it says about the party’s funding transparency?”

Mishra raised concerns about AAP’s finances, questioning why leaders like Kejriwal and former minister Satyendar Jain didn’t rely on crowdfunding in previous elections.

“In 2015, Kejriwal also asked for money from the public. But now, he doesn’t. How does he fund his campaigns today? This entire crowdfunding initiative by Atishi seems like a gimmick to convert black money into white,” he alleged.

Drawing a sharp contrast with Atishi’s crowdfunding efforts, Mishra highlighted his past work in mobilizing funds for families in distress.

“I’ve collected money for families like Kanhaiya Lal’s and Dilbar Negi’s, who were left alone and weak. Atishi, on the other hand, is raising money for herself,” he said, questioning her priorities.

Mishra’s remarks reflect a broader critique of AAP’s approach to political funding and transparency, calling into question the party’s claims of integrity. His comments come amidst heightened political activity as Delhi prepares for upcoming elections.

The allegations are likely to stir further debate over AAP’s campaign strategies and financial practices, adding another layer of controversy to the party’s election preparations.
