NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut on Thursday was summoned by the Peace and Harmony Committee of the Delhi Assembly over her remarks against Sikhs through her Instagram profile. She has been asked to appear before the committee headed by Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha on December 6 at 12pm.

“The Committee has received multiple complaints eliciting outrageously offensive and derogatory Instagram stories/posts allegedly published by Ms. Kangana Ranaut, the film actress, on her official Instagram Account namely @kanganaranaut. According to the complainants, the stories published by Ms. Kangana Ranaut on her Instagram Account which has a massive reach and is being followed by around 80 lakh of people worldwide, specifically illustrates the instances which hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh Community and has a tendency to disturb the peace and harmony of the society,” a statement issued by the committee read.

Given the gravity and the importance of all these issues in the NCT of Delhi, the committee on ‘Peace and Harmony’ under the Chairmanship of MLA Raghav Chadha has summoned Ms. Kangana Ranaut to appear before the Committee so as to deliberate on the present issue in a more comprehensive and coherent manner. The summons were issued and she has been called to appear on 06.12.2021 at 12 pm

After PM Narendra Modi repealed farm laws on November 19, Kangana wrote a long Instagram story/post calling Sikh community as Khalistani terrorists. FIRs were then lodged against her in Mumbai’s Khar police station and Delhi’s Mandir Marg Police Station.

Majindar Singh Sirsa, President, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management committee, also tweeted saying he has registered an FIR against her in Delhi Mandir Marg Police station.

Her entire statement read:

Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today. But let’s not forget one woman. The only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jooti ke niche crush kia tha. No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation, she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life. Lekin desh ke tukde nahi hone diye. Even after decades of her death, aaj bhi uske naam se kaampte hai yeh inko vaisa he guru chahiye

The Sikh community protested outside Kangana’s Khar bungalow in Mumbai on Monday demanding police action against her for allegedly disrespecting the community.

Ranaut also made another controversial statement where she said India got true Independence after 2014 and that the freedom the country got in 1947 was “bheek”.

The 34-year-old actress was awarded Padma Shree on November 8,2021 by the Indian Government.
