NEW DELHI: Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has drawn sharp criticism for her remarks on the tragic death of Bengaluru-based techie Atul Subhash, whose emotional video before his demise has gone viral. Speaking on the case, Kangana said, “The entire country is in shock. His video is heartbreaking. Fake feminism is condemnable. Extortion of crores of rupees was being done. Having said that, in 99 percent of marriage cases, it’s the men who are at fault. That’s why such mistakes also happen.”

Her comments, particularly the claim that “99 percent of marriage cases” are the fault of men, have triggered a wave of backlash online.

Rohan Dua, Executive Editor of The New Indian (@rohanduaT02) questioned her role within the BJP, tweeting, “Is motormouth Kangana Ranaut becoming more embarrassment for BJP than an asset? Despite gag orders from party leaders, Ranaut continues to speak out of turn on sensitive and grave issues hurting national and party sentiments.”

User @ShreeGZunjarrao criticized Kangana’s perceived insensitivity, stating, “Shame on Kangana Ranaut, and this is the reason Late Atul Subhash didn’t tag any Indian authority in his last post. The Indian government must bash Kangana for her brainless illogical comments.”

The sentiment was echoed by @HinduDharm94198, who sarcastically wrote, “She is the new judge of our justice system. She deserves to be Chief Justice of India. Atul Subhash should have met her once; the case would’ve been solved.”

While many slammed Kangana for her remarks, others took the opportunity to mock her. User @TravisKutty quipped, “Thanks to #KanganaRanaut’s brainless statements, Left and Right-wing men are now besties over the #AtulSubhash case. Fun fact: Even ultra-right handles are sharing the iconic pic of the CISF lady who slapped Kangana! Kangana uniting all men—mission accomplished!”

Others were more direct in their criticism. @Coderxr tweeted, “#KanganaRanaut is mentally retarded. Listening to her is like shoving a bucket full of crap in your ears.”

Amid the uproar, organizations like @voiceformenind highlighted systemic gender biases, sarcastically stating, “Hrithik Roshan surely had a narrow escape.” This was a dig at Kangana’s past controversies.

Despite the backlash, Kangana’s remarks have reignited discussions about gender roles and the handling of domestic disputes. However, her sweeping generalizations about men’s culpability in marriage cases have alienated many, with users like @SaliSantosh remarking, “It’s not the problem that Kangana is saying this, the problem is that we make them idiots so big, then think their opinions matter!”

While the techie’s death remains a sombre reminder of the consequences of unresolved issues, Kangana’s comments have shifted the focus to her polarizing public persona. Whether this helps or hinders the broader discourse on domestic issues remains to be seen.
