NEW DELHI: In a chilling incident that highlights the growing menace of organized crime, members of the notorious Kala Jathedi gang allegedly made a threatening extortion call to a jeweller based in Rohini, Delhi. The jeweller, already struggling with severe financial difficulties, was left in a state of despair as he and his wife pleaded with the gang operatives for mercy. The call, which has since been recorded and circulated, reveals a disturbing exchange between the jeweller and one of the gang members.

In the recorded conversation, the jeweller is heard explaining to the gang member that he is unable to meet the extortion demand due to his mounting debts. “I don’t have money, I have a huge debt to repay,” he tells the caller. His wife, who is also present during the call, adds, “We are poor; I sit at the shop to help my husband along with our children.” Despite their desperate pleas, the gang member remains insistent, telling them, “If we call someone, he has to pay, that’s it. Go anywhere you want. Even the police will take money from you if you approach them.”

The threat becomes more menacing as the gang member warns the jeweller against involving his wife or seeking help from others. The jeweller, clearly distressed, responds repeatedly, “I am poor, I don’t know how to pay you a single penny,” but his words fall on deaf ears.

A formal complaint was lodged with the police on November 7, and authorities have since initiated an investigation into the incident. The New Indian has accessed the video of the call, where the gang member can be heard issuing explicit threats and demanding money from the jeweller. While the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified, police sources confirm that top officials are handling the case. “We are thoroughly looking into the matter,” a police official stated, though no senior officers were available for further comment.
