Security forces killed two terrorists belonging to proscribed terror organisation Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) in an encounter in the Nowgam area in Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Wednesday, the Kashmir Police said.
“Acting on specific information generated by police regarding the presence of terrorists in the Dangerpora area of Nowgam in district Srinagar, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police and the Army (50RR) in the said area,” the police said.
“As the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated effectively, leading to an encounter,” the police said.
“In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter. They have been identified as Aijaz Rasool Najar of Pulwama and Shahid Ahmad alias Abu Hamza,” police added.
As per police records, both the killed terrorists were categorised as terrorists and were linked with the proscribed terror outfit AGuH. “Both the terrorists were involved in several terror crime cases, including attacks on police and security forces, along with civilian atrocities. Besides, they were also involved in the recent attack on an outside labourer, namely Muneer ul Islam of West Bengal, on September 2 in the Ugergund Newa area of Pulwama, police added.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including one AK series rifle, two pistols and one grenade, were recovered from the site of the encounter, police said. “All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” the police said. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in this regard, and an investigation has been initiated.
