Suspended IGP of Jammu and Kashmir police Basant Rath has written a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to initiate a CBI inquiry against allegations of illegal activities against J&K DGP Dilbag Singh.

IGP Rath has accused DGP Singh of making illegal money through some IPS and JKPS officers at the Police Headquarters in criminal activities since his appointment as DGP in 2018.

IGP Rath has further mentioned that he has documented evidence – including, official communications and audio and video recordings – to prove his case against the DGP.

IGP Rath has accused the DGP of forcibly selling lottery tickets to gullible people and police officers. He has also accused Singh of making purchases like cars, motorcycles, and consumer durables, including electronic devices, without going through mandatory prudent financial protocols.

IGP Rath has stated in his letter that, under the guise of a police public mela, an illegal lottery racket was being run by the DGP despite the UT government’s refusal of approval on selling lottery tickets to anyone in J&K, including the DGP.

Citing the above accusations against DGP Singh, IGP Rath has stated that he has misused his official position and behaved as an extra-legal authority. Hence, he has filed an official complaint against DGP Singh with the MHA.

IGP Basant Rath is currently under suspension on charges of misconduct. He subsequently resigned from the police force, but his resignation hasn’t been officially accepted yet.

The New Indian tried to reach DGP Dilbag Singh, but no comments were received from the J&K Police chief.
