Jammu and Kashmir police’s State Investigation Unit (SIU-I) in Srinagar has filed a charge sheet against five accused persons – two terrorists and three terrorist associates – before an NIA court in a terror-related case.

“The case was registered at Srinagar’s Chanapora police station on November 1, 2022. The case was subsequently transferred to SIU-I on the orders of the Jammu and Kashmir police headquarters, a J&K police spokesperson said.

Two grenades were recovered from the two suspects, Amir Mushtaq Dar and Kabil Rashid Dar, who were intercepted by the naka party at a checkpoint established at Harnambal near Sports Stadium Natipora Chanapora. “Besides their mobile phones with inbuilt SIM cards were also seized. Accordingly, a case was registered and an investigation was initiated,” J&K police said.

During the investigation, police said that another co-accused, Aqib Jamal Bhat, was apprehended. On his disclosure, police recovered one IED, which was kept hidden in a pit at Rangreth near the railway track, in the presence of the concerned Executive Magistrate. The said IED was destroyed on the spot by the Bomb Disposal Squad.

“During the further course of the investigation, it was established that the three arrested accused persons, Amir Mushtaq Dar, Kabil Rashid Dar and Aqib Jamal Bhat, were working as terrorist associates for the terrorists, Momin Gulzar Mir and Basit Ahmad Dar,” police said.

“Under a well-knit criminal conspiracy, the trio of terrorist associates were providing logistic support to the terrorists and had also procured hand grenades and IEDs for carrying out the terrorist activities,” police added.

J&K police further said that based on the evidence collected (material/documentary and oral), the three arrested accused persons were found to be involved in the commission of offences punishable in terms of the provisions of the Arms Act and UA(P) Act under sections 7/25 Arms Act, 13, 18, 23 & 39 UA(P) Act.

“The accused terrorists Momin Gulzar Mir and Basit Ahmad Dar, who are absconding, are found to be involved in the commission of offences under sections 13, 18, 20 & 38 UA(P) Act. Proceedings under Section 299 CrPC have been proposed to be initiated against them,” the police added.
