Security forces claimed on Wednesday, April 5, to have busted a hideout and recovered arms and ammunition in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the police, they had received a piece of information regarding the presence of a cache of arms, ammunition and other related material in the far-flung hilly and forested area of tehsil Khari of District Ramban on Tuesday, April 4.
Acting swiftly on the input, a joint search operation of the J&K Police and the 23 RR Army was launched in the forest area and suspected hideout locations were searched.
The operation continued till evening, during which security forces busted a terrorist hideout. They also recovered arms and ammunition, among other things, from the spot.
“The arms and ammunition recovered include 256 7.62mm cartridges, 36 7.62mm empty cartridges, five AK-47 magazines, 34 9mm cartridges, one 9mm empty cartridge, two 9mm empty magazines and two Pika ammunition,” police said.
“16 Pika empty cartridges, one Pika belt, one 52mm mortar, four detonators, two feet of Cordex, one knife, one lantern, one kerosene lamp, one tape recorder, one walkman with headphones, five audio cassettes, one bottle of Itar, one watch, two old bags, one LMG ammunition belt box and two identity cards,” a police spokesperson said.
“In this regard, a case FIR no. 77/2023 u/s 7/25 Arms Act and Sec 4 Explosives Substances Act has been registered at P/S Banihal and an investigation has been taken up,” police said.
The entire joint search operation of J&K Police and 23 RR was led by Major Mayank of 23 RR, a police party of Police Post Khari headed by PSI Rajnish Pangotra in-charge PP Khari, SOG Banihal headed by inspector Hargopal Singh, under the command of inspector Mohd Afzal Wani, SHO PS Banihal, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Pardeep Sen in-charge SDPO Banihal, with the overall supervision of Mohita Sharma, SP Ramban, Police said.
