J&K Police arrests 3 LeT terrorist associates in Srinagar

Police also recovered cash amount of more than ₹31 lakhs, along with pages of letter pads of the terrorist outfit

Police have arrested three terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit LeT in Srinagar

In a major development in the valley, police in Srinagar have arrested three terrorist associates of the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

They also recovered a cash amount of ₹31,65,200 (Thirty one lakh, sixty five thousand and two hundred rupees) and other incriminating materials from their possession.

During a routine check at the Lasjan crossing, a police party from Police Station Nowgam spotted three suspicious individuals coming from Lasjan towards NHW carrying a blue colour cricket kit bag and trying to avoid the naka checking party. However, the alert police tactfully apprehended them.

The three persons have been identified as Umar Adil Dar, a resident of Soiteng, Bilal Asmad Sidiqi, a resident of Kursoo Rajbagh and Salik Mehraj, a resident of Soiteng.

During the checking, the police found cash amounting ₹31,65,200, one mobile phone and three pages of LeT letter pad from the cricket kit bag carried by Dar. Police also recovered 10 pages of LeT letter pad from Sidiqi and Mehraj.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the trio was working as terrorist associates of the banned terrorist organisation LeT. The money was received by them as part of a conspiracy to strengthen its cadres within the district of Srinagar.

The money was received on the directions of their handlers based in Pakistan as a part of a larger criminal conspiracy hatched by the terrorist organisation for furthering their activities and causing large-scale disturbances in the union territory of J&K.

In this regard, a case has been registered at Police Station Nowgam under relevant sections of the law. Further investigation into the case is in progress. More recoveries and arrests are expected in the case.
