J&K National Conference to unveil candidates post-notification

SRINAGAR: The National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah said that the party will reveal its nominees for the legislative elections once the notification is made public.

Omar informed the press that they are currently working on finalizing the list of party nominees.

“It’s been less than 48 hours since the declaration (of elections). Please allow us some time as we are finalizing our plans. The announcement for the initial phase will be made on August 20. We will disclose our nominees after that and hope for a positive outcome,” he mentioned.

The notice for the first phase is set to be released on August 20, with voting scheduled for September 18.

Omar criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for being overly optimistic and setting unrealistic goals ahead of the elections.

He pointed out that BJP’s ambitious slogans, such as their claim of “400 seats,” are a clear sign of their overconfidence. Omar recalled that the BJP has always focused on numbers, just as they did in 2014 when they predicted winning 45 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir legislative elections.

He remarked that while the BJP concentrated on numbers, their actual performance in the general elections fell short, ending at 240 seats, far from the anticipated 400.

Omar further stated that the NC approaches elections with modesty and realistic goals. “We are hopeful of receiving the people’s backing and the opportunity to govern. We are not fixated on the number of seats, unlike the BJP, “ he asserted.

Omar advised BJP leaders to avoid making exaggerated promises about election victories and instead concentrate on tackling real challenges.
