Unmasking attempts to discredit initiative; facts, figures illuminate financial realities: SHA

SRINAGAR: Reacting to the recent social media dissemination of misleading information aiming to tarnish the reputation of the Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana SEHAT (AB-PMJAY SEHAT) scheme in Jammu and Kashmir, the State Health Agency (SHA) debunked the claims calling them baseless upon examination of available facts and figures.

An official spokesperson of the SHA refuted the allegations of a multi-crore scam in the PMJAY scheme, stating that IFFCO TOKIO General Insurance Co. Ltd had been issued the tender on the pretext of them being the lowest bidder, charging Rs 1840 per family. Prior to them signing up, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company had issued their exit notice to the health agency in September 2021. According to the spokesperson, the SHA and the insurance company had ensued with extensive deliberations, however, no positive outcome could be perceived.

WATCH:

Bajaj had backed out citing a “substantial” loss of Rs 93.82 crore during the course of their services. The contracts had been issued by the National Health Authority, whereupon the tender document outlined a maximum three-year term with the option of annual renewal upon mutual agreement.

When IFFCO TOKIO was employed, the SHA saw the participation of four other insurance companies during the tendering process, namely, Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Pvt. Ltd, United India Insurance Company, and National Insurance Company.

It had been ensured by the health agency that three out of the five bidders fit the bill, meeting the specified requirements, qualifying for the second stage of the tendering process. The companies included  IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company, and National Insurance Company.

Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media, there were no changes or additions to the number of beneficiary families, which remained consistent throughout both the primary policy and the interim period.

The bidding document is available on www.jktenders.gov.in, containing all the details and clarifications conveyed to the bidders. A period of 22 days had been allocated for bid preparation and submission.
