JAMMU: The newly elected Omar Abdullah led government of Jammu and Kashmir tabled its first legislative proposal in the Assembly on Saturday.
Following the Question Hour, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, representing Finance Minister Omar Abdullah, introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the House.
The proposed legislation aims to bring the Union Territoryโs GST framework in line with recent modifications made to the national Goods and Services Tax Act.
The revisions primarily focus on regulatory measures for tax administration and do not entail any additional financial burden, either recurring or non-recurring.
Jammu and Kashmirโs legislative authority had been under parliamentary control since the imposition of central rule in 2018.
With the restoration of the Assembly, the introduction of this bill marks a crucial move towards legislative autonomy in the region.
