The Special Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir, formed to investigate terror-related cases, completed one year on Tuesday. The anti-terror body has investigated 450 cases of special nature till now.

The first Raising Day of SIA was celebrated today at Miran Sahib, Jammu on Monday. The Director General of J&K Police, Dilbag Singh, was the chief guest and the Special Director General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, J&K, R R Swain, was the guest of honour on the occasion.

“Normally somebody celebrating their first birthday would be walking with difficulties, but this wing is rather running. That shows the energy and enthusiasm of the officers and the leader of the SIA,” the DGP Singh said.

“A year ago we had the NIA (National Investigation Agency) to supplement the investigation process in terror-related cases in Jammu and Kashmir. But today it is a pleasure to say that we have SIA,” he said, adding, “It is itself an achievement that this wing has been able to earn a name in a very short period of time.”

DGP Singh said that during its first year, the SIA investigated 450 cases of special nature, with an overall disposal rate of 65 per cent. He said that in addition to this, J&K Police has created new investigation units at the district level called SIUs (Special Investigation Units) and added that these units too would complement and supplement the investigation process of UAPA cases.

DGP Singh said that SIA has brought a lot of value addition to the CID wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police. “SIA has emerged as a strong investigation arm of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the kind of fear SIA has been able to generate among the anti-peace elements is tremendous,” DGP Singh said.

In his address, Special DG CID Swain praised the SIA teams’ enthusiasm and energy, saying they are doing an excellent job with extreme dedication and professionalism.
