Jharkhand Chief minister Hemant Soren flagged-off flight service between Jamshedpur and Kolkata from Sonari airport on Tuesday. The inauguration took place in the presence of Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The air service will be operated every day of the week between Jamshedpur and Kolkata by India-One Air.
India-One’s Center Grand Caravan X (C208B) aircraft will take off from Jamshedpur at 10.15 am and return from Kolkata at 12.10 pm. The total duration of the one-side journey of the flight will be 1.05 hours. With this new initiative, India-One Air will mark its presence in the states of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.
Speaking at the occasion, CM Soren said that the government is working towards strengthening air connectivity in Jharkhand. He said, “Presently, there are 5-6 airports in Jharkhand. A new airport is also proposed in Sahibganj. We are making efforts to strengthen all the airports in the state. The government is preparing an action plan to connect all the districts with air service.”
He also urged Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to expedite the process of improving air connectivity in Jharkhand. CM Soren said, “Urban Development Department is constantly working to improve air connectivity in the state. A Commercial Pilot Training Center (CPTC) has been started. I urge you to facilitate the processes related to the licencing and security of this centre so we can do even better in this direction.”
Scindia, who attended the meeting online, said that the Centre is committed to improving air connectivity across all regions. He said, “This Jamshedpur-Kolkata air service is a testimony to our resolution to bring air service to the people across the country. Air connectivity is being expanded at a fast pace under the UDAN service.”
According to Union Minister Scindia, India’s aviation industry is reviving. He said, “During the last two decades, many airlines around the world were closed here, while the arrival of three new airlines in India is giving a better signal.”
