NEW DELHI: The second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024 has concluded, with a voter turnout of 61.47% as of 3 p.m. today, November 20, 2024. The polling was conducted in 38 Assembly constituencies across 12 districts, with over one crore voters eligible to cast their ballots.

The contest in Jharkhand is heating up, with the ruling JMM-led INDIA alliance and the opposition BJP-led NDA facing off in a fierce battle for control of the state. In the second phase, the BJP is contesting 32 seats, while its ally AJSU is vying for six. On the other side, the INDIA bloc is fielding candidates from JMM (20 seats), Congress (13 seats), CPI(ML) (4 seats), and RJD (2 seats).

The second phase is crucial for both alliances, with high-profile candidates such as Chief Minister Hemant Soren (Barhait constituency), his wife Kalapana Soren (Gandey), and his brother Basant Soren (Dumka) leading the charge for the JMM. For the BJP, prominent figures like State President Babulal Marandi (Dhanwar) and Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri (Chandankiyari) are in the fray.

Here is the approximate voter turnout for each constituency:

  • Bokaro: 56.38%

  • Deoghar: 64.55%

  • Dhanbad: 56.32%

  • Dumka: 64.79%

  • Giridih: 60.57%

  • Godda: 62.91%

  • Hazaribagh: 58.16%

  • Jamtara: 68.24%

  • Pakur: 69.31%

  • Ramgarh: 66.02%

  • Ranchi: 65.84%

  • Sahebganj: 60.08%

The varying turnout across districts highlights different levels of voter enthusiasm. Pakur and Jamtara recorded some of the highest turnouts, with Pakur at  69.31% and Jamtara at 68.24%. These districts seem to show higher participation, reflecting the engagement of local voters in the electoral process. On the other hand, Bokaro and Dhanbad recorded relatively lower turnouts, with both districts hovering just above 56%.

As phase 2 voting for Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024 concludes, the race remains intense between the ruling JMM-led INDIA alliance and the BJP-led NDA.
