KANPUR: On the eve of the 75th Independence Day, the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) claimed to have nabbed a terror suspect from Kanpur. The suspect, a member of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), has been identified as Habibul Islam alias Saifulla, 19, a native of Fatehpur, UP.

On Friday, ATS had arrested Mohammad Nadeem from Saharanpur, who was planning to attack the suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. He was also stated to be a member of JeM.

Police believe that both belonged to the same network of terror organization.

Police said Saifulla was in touch with his handlers in Pakistan and Afghanistan through social media sites like Telegram, WhatsApp and Facebook.

An expert in making virtual ID, Saifulla has made over 50 IDs of terror suspects from Pakistan and Afghanistan. He is the one who had also provided the ID to Nadeem. Sources said ATS was trying to ascertain what was his planning and who was his target. His further interrogation is on.

So far, interrogations have revealed that Saifulla was the member of various WhatsApp groups through his virtual ID. He would sent ‘Jehadi’ videos to influence and motivate the youths.

One of his handlers had also invited him to come to Pakistan and get training of Jehad to spread it in India. One mobile phone and a button knife have been recovered from his possession. Sources said UP ATS suspected the JeM has planned to execute terror strikes at various locations during Independence Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, the security agencies have already issued at least five alerts cautioning that terrorists may carry out strikes during Independence Day.
