JAMMU: In a sweeping crackdown on narcotics and illegal trade, Jammu Police detained 35 more suspected drug traffickers on Friday as part of an ongoing campaign codenamed โOperation Clean Up.โ This brings the total number of detentions to 77 within just 48 hours, marking a significant escalation in efforts to curb the rising threat of substance abuse in the region.
A police official said the action highlights the strong commitment of the South Zone Jammu Police to eliminate drug networks at the street level. โThis broad-based preventive initiative demonstrates our zero-tolerance stance against narcotics and local trafficking,โ the official stated.
The intensified action is being conducted under the leadership of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, and is being closely coordinated by the Superintendent of Police (SP) City South, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) of East and South. The operations are being executed on the ground by Station House Officers (SHOs) and in-charge officers of South Zone police posts.

The objective of โOperation Clean Upโ is to dismantle small-scale drug distribution channels, particularly those that endanger the regionโs youth. Fridayโs arrests follow a coordinated sweep a day earlier that resulted in the detention of 42 suspected peddlers. Authorities confirmed that legal procedures have been initiated against the accused as per applicable statutes.
In another operation, dubbed โOperation Ploughing,โ aimed at halting unauthorized resource extraction, police teams from Belicharana intercepted two dumpers carrying crushed stone (bajri) without valid mining documents. Similarly, a dumper was seized by Chatha Police for similar violations.
In all such incidents, the District Mineral Officer (DMO) was informed and further action was initiated as per mining regulations. The seized vehicles have been taken into custody.
Jammu Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in supporting such enforcement initiatives. โCommunity participation is vital. We request people to report any suspicious activity or information related to drugs and illegal mining so we can act swiftly,โ a spokesperson said.
Both operations underline the administrationโs dual focus on safeguarding youth from drug abuse and protecting natural resources from unlawful exploitation.
