New Delhi: Karnal Singh, the former Joint CP of the Special Cell, who also served as the director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), revealed to The New Indian that during his tenure, the Imam of Jama Masjid referred to him and Y.S. Dadwal (former Delhi Police Commissioner) as “terrorists.”

Singh made this revelation during an event marking the fifth anniversary of the Delhi Riots, in an interview with The New Indian. He stated that the Imam labeled them as terrorists due to their actions against terrorism.

“What happened is, apart from the Batla House Encounter and our actions against terrorism, the Special Cell had taken significant measures. Around 28 terrorists were encountered, and more than 200 were arrested during my tenure. Secondly, the Imam had Z-plus security, with 21 police personnel assigned to his protection. I withdrew that security, which angered him. Later, my team informed me that the Imam was saying, ‘They (referring to me and Dadwal sir) are the terrorists sitting on my head.’ That’s what the Imam used to say about us,” Mr. Singh told The New Indian.

“In the Jama Masjid area, people had to sleep in shifts to avoid attacks by a particular community. These were Hindus who used to sleep in shifts,” Singh said.
