New Delhi: Jakub Mensik, a 19-year-old rising star, defeated his idol Novak Djokovic in a historic Miami Open final to secure his first ATP title and Masters 1000 championship.
The Czech teenager triumphed in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4), showcasing remarkable composure and skill against the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Mensikโs victory marks a significant milestone in his career, becoming the second-youngest Miami champion after Carlos Alcaraz in 2022.

The match, delayed by rain for nearly six hours, was a battle of youth versus experience. Djokovic, seeking his 100th career title, faced challenges including an eye infection and slippery court conditions.
Despite these obstacles, the Serbian legend displayed resilience, but Mensikโs powerful serve and mental fortitude proved decisive. The teenager delivered 14 aces and maintained a high first-serve percentage, breaking Djokovicโs rhythm and denying him crucial points.

It hurts me to admit it but you were better. In the clutch moments you delivered the goods. Unbelievable serving. Just a phenomenal effort mentally to stay in the difficult moments,โ he remarked.
