‘Jail mein hai Kaal’: Manish Sisodia on Kejriwal versus Modi

Manish Sisodia adresses a public gathering outside AAP Headquaerters

NEW DELHI: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, referred to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as the BJP’s “Kaal” (death) during a charged address to AAP workers on Saturday.

Sisodia, who was released on conditional bail a day earlier, warned the ruling party that their time was limited. “The ‘kaal’ of the BJP is currently behind bars, but you won’t be able to hold him back for long,” he declared.

Sisodia was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy scam, where he faces charges of corruption and money laundering. Upon his release from Tihar Jail, he visited Rajghat and paid his respects at the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place before addressing AAP supporters at the party’s headquarters in DDU Marg.

“The BJP is orchestrating all these games to tarnish Arvind Kejriwal’s and AAP’s reputation and imprison your leaders,” Sisodia said. He added, “Even the BJP members are starting to wonder what kind of people the AAP leaders are, who remain in jail for 6 months, 17 months, yet neither bow down nor break. What kind of soil are they made from (kis mitti se ye bane hai)? The same soil where Bhagat Singh’s sweat has fallen, the same ground where Babasaheb stood tall and endured the tyranny of his time.”

Sisodia’s speech emphasised his belief that the legal actions against AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, are part of a larger conspiracy to undermine the party.

“The web of the ED and CBI has not been woven because any corruption took place; this entire conspiracy has been orchestrated to tarnish the image of Arvind Kejriwal,” he stated. Addressing the BJP, he reiterated, “The era of the BJP is currently in jail, but you won’t be able to hold it back for long.”

Sisodia expressed confidence that Kejriwal would soon be released, attributing this belief to the power of the Constitution. “Only the Constitution can save a common man, and this power of the Constitution will also ensure the release of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal,” he said, thanking his lawyers for their relentless efforts towards securing his bail.

AAP leaders echoed Sisodia’s sentiments, with Sanjay Singh calling the court’s decision a “victory of truth” and a “slap on the face of the Centre’s dictatorship.” Gopal Rai, in a press conference, added, “This is not just bail, but BJP’s defeat.”
