Jahangirpuri Violence Was Continuation Of Anti CAA Protest: Delhi Police Charge Sheet

NEW DELHI: Jahangirpuri violence was the continuation of the protest against CAA and NRC and Delhi Riots, Delhi Police said in its 2063-page charge sheet filed on Thursday. The charge sheet was filed by the Crime Branch in which it was said that a total of 37 persons were arrested and eight were still absconding.

“From the investigation conducted so far and material on record, it is established that the present incident was in continuation of the protests against CAA & NRC of 2019 & 2020 in Shaheen Bagh and the North-East Delhi riots of February 2020, which got further aggravated after Ram Navami incidents on February 10 in different parts of the country,” the Delhi Police said in its charge sheet.

A case under sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, 332, 307, 323, 427, 436, 509 and 120B of the IPC and 27 Arms Act was registered after the violence was triggered over the Hanuman Jayanti procession at Jahangirpuri area on April 16.

Investigation of the case was transferred to the Crime Branch on April 18.

A total of nine firearms, five live cartridges, two empty cartridges, nine swords and clothes of 11 accused persons worn at the time of the incident and seen in videos have been recovered.

CCTV footage of 28 cameras of PWD installed around Kusal Cinema Road, and 30 Cameras of PWD installed around C-Block, Jahangirpuri were obtained and analyzed.

“34 viral videos and 56 videos from electronic media were collected. At least 20 out of 37 accused persons arrested have been captured in CCTV footage,” said a police officer.

Total numbers of 21 mobile phones were seized from accused persons and a total of 132 witnesses were examined. Out of the arrested persons, two were juveniles.

Police said that for the investigation of the case a total number of 13 teams were deployed for verifying the background details of accused persons, dump data, Technical (FRS) Analyses, viral video collections, CCTV footage collection arrest of accused persons, financial aspect and conspiracy angle.

Delhi Police said they were still investigating the Bangladesh angle into the whole conspiracy. The supplementary charge sheet will be filed as investigations move ahead and more arrests will take place.
