J&K’s Palli Becomes Carbon Neutral Panchayat; PM Modi Inaugurates 500KV Solar Plant

NEW DELHI: The quaint village of Palli in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir became a carbon-neutral panchayat after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 500KV solar plant in the hamlet.

Speaking to the villagers, PM Modi said that the panchayat had shown the way for the country to achieve a carbon-neutral state. He talked about the importance of using solar pumps in agriculture and discussed the usage of LED bulbs and solar cookers while highlighting the benefits of natural farming.

Modi also congratulated the villagers for celebrating the foundation day of the village. “All people of the village should come and join such celebrations each year, and decide what all work should be undertaken in the next year,” he said.

During his interaction with the Palli panchayat representatives, PM also exhorted them to utilise their tenure to do such work in their area which will be remembered for generations.

The panchayat representatives thanked the PM for the solar power plant and informed him that each household in the village had made elaborate preparations to welcome the PM and the guests. “The ladies of the area made elaborate preparations to welcome PM Modi and other guests. Each household had prepared 20 rotis to welcome the guests coming for the event,” a representative said.
