NEW DELHI: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has postponed his visit to India after contracting Covid-19 infection, Israel’s mission to India confirmed to The New Indian. PM Bennett was scheduled to arrive in New Delhi on April 3 for a three-day visit.

“The postponement of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s visit to India due to Covid-19 is a great disappointment for wonderful people at Israel embassy in India, the Ministry of External Affairs, Embassy of India in Israel and the office of Israel PM who worked to make a great visit reflecting the outstanding friendship,” Naor Gilon, Israel’s India to India envoy, tweeted.

“We can’t wait to make this happen soon,” he further said.

Bennett assumed the office of the Prime Minister in 2021, replacing longest-serving Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

After becoming the prime minister, Bennett met PM Narendra Modi in the United Nations Climate Change Conference or COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland in November last year for the first time. Earlier, they had held a telephonic conversation with PM Modi on August 16, 2021.

Israel opened its diplomatic mission in New Delhi in February 1992 and India opened its mission in Tel Aviv after two months.
