NEW DELHI: Telangana Chief Minister and Congress leader Revanth Reddy held a significant meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on July 4. The meeting has sparked controversy. The speculation arose regarding his potential inclination towards joining the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
This meeting marked the first meeting between Modi and Reddy since the Prime Minister’s third consecutive term began last month. Sources revealed that discussions primarily focused on crucial pending projects of Telangana, underscoring the strategic importance of the dialogue.

Accompanied by Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, Revanth Reddy first met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Discussions during this session reportedly centered on developmental issues specific to the southern state but the details of the discussions were not officially disclosed.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office provided insights into the meeting’s agenda, stating, “State Chief Minister Revanth Reddy along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu met Union Home Minister Amit Shah today. On this occasion, many issues related to the state were discussed with him.”
Subsequently, the duo proceeded to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they raised concerns about key pending projects critical to Telangana’s development.
The timing of this meeting is noteworthy, occurring approximately a month after both leaders engaged in public verbal sparring during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had indirectly criticized Revanth Reddy, alleging mismanagement of state funds through what he termed as the “double R (RR) tax,” channeling resources to Delhi. In response, the Telangana Chief Minister had urged PM Modi to step down, citing electoral sentiment.
The recent meeting, therefore, signifies a significant attempt at dialogue and resolution of state-level issues between the Telangana leadership and the central government, amidst ongoing political dynamics.
