NEW DELHI: Union minister Smriti Irani on Saturday called Congress’ allegation that her daughter runs an “illegal bar” as “attempts of character assassination”, saying that she is being targeted by the Gandhi family for defeating Rahul Gandhi in Amethi.

“The character assassination of my daughter is being done on the instructions of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi because I defeated Rahul Gandhi in Amethi and have been consistently exposing the misdeeds of the Gandhi family,” she told reporters here.

She asked the Congress to produce documents to back their allegations that her daughter runs an illegal bar in Goa. “Where is the name of my daughter mentioned in the RTI reply based on which the Congress is making the allegation,” she said.

She said she will drag Congress spokespersons to the court for making false charges against her daughter.

“I will also take it up in people’s court,” she said.

Daring Rahul Gandhi to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Amethi, which was once considered a Congress bastion, she said, “I will defeat him again.”

Rahul Gandhi is currently an MP from Wayanad in Kerala. He contested from two seats in 2019.
