MUMBAI: Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday routed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 9 wickets in match 36 of the Indian Premier League 2022 and registered the fifth win, out of seven matches, of the tournament.
Hyderabad won the toss and asked Bangalore to bat first. In the second over of the innings, the left-arm pacer Macro Jansen nipped out three wickets to decimate the top-order of Bangalore. Faf du Plessis was cleaned up by Jansen, while Virat Kohli once again fell on the first ball.
Bangalore could not recover from these jolts and the wickets kept falling rapidly. Glenn Maxwell and Suyash Prabhudessai were the only batsmen who reached double digits. Apart from Jansen, another left-arm pacer T Natarajan snapped up three wickets.
In the end, Bangalore were bowled out for just 68 runs in 16.1 overs.
Chasing 69, Hyderabad got off to a terrific start as openers Abhishek Sharma and captain Kane Williamson added 64 runs for the first wicket. Abhishek batted with aplomb and unfurled a slew of boundaries. Williamson held one end stoutly and ensured an easy win for his team.
Hyderabad chased down the target in 8 overs to seal their fifth victory on the trot. Jansen was declared Man of the Match.
“I try to keep it as simple as possible and sometimes it works. I thought the ball was going to swing nicely after the first ball I bowled. The second ball was angled across the right hander, but I enjoyed the third wicket the most (Rawat’s wicket). This is the best spell I have bowled with the white ball so far,” Jansen said after the match.
Williamson hailed his team for putting up a brilliant performance. “The guys bowled beautifully and we caught well. It was an outstanding performance, but for us it’s about looking forward to the next challenge. The ball is swinging a lot more this season, so we have been taking wickets in the powerplay,” he said.
“He (Jansen) is always up for a laugh off the field, but is very focused. He has got the skills to do that, he is a real treat for us. You want to do as well as you can. Abhishek has been timing the ball brilliantly. There are a few challenges coming up ahead, so we need to be focused,” he added.
