NEW DELHI: IntraPac India 2024, a collaborative effort between ASPA and IPAMA (Indian Printing Packaging & Allied Machinery Manufacturing Association), entered its second day with a focus on combatting counterfeiting through innovative solutions. The highlight of the event was a panel discussion on Authentication, Traceability, and Secure Sustainable Packaging, attended by industry stakeholders and distinguished guests.
During the panel discussion, Mr. Manoj Kochar, President of ASPA, emphasized the paramount importance of the phygital approach in combating counterfeiting. He highlighted how this integrated strategy, combining tangible features with digital technologies, enhances product security and authenticity. Mr. Kochar remarked, “Embracing a phygital approach offers multifaceted protection, ensuring products remain safeguarded against illicit replication.”

The discussion also underscored the significance of incorporating advanced technologies such as nano engraving, RFID, Hologram, QR codes, and blockchain into packaging design. These technologies enable real-time tracking and authentication, empowering consumers to verify product authenticity effortlessly.
Mr. Ajai Srivastava, an Honorary Member of ASPA, emphasized the importance of public awareness in combating counterfeiting, drawing parallels to the zero-tolerance policy for counterfeit currency. He highlighted the complete traceability employed by institutions like the Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India Ltd (SPMCIL) and Bhartiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Pvt Ltd (BRBNMPL) units.
Mr. Honey Bhardwaj added to the discussion by stressing the importance of continuously upgrading technology to make it more difficult for counterfeiters to crack.

The event highlighted the proactive efforts of ASPA in creating awareness about physical and digital authentication solutions for brand protection and consumer empowerment. Founded in 1998, ASPA continues to educate stakeholders and promote the adoption of authentication solutions to safeguard consumer interests and reduce revenue loss due to counterfeiting.
