FATEHABAD: Former Haryana Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo Om Prakash Chautala defended his son Abhay Chautala’s remarks about resigning if the people were not satisfied with him, leading to speculation if there would be another by-poll in the Ellenabad constituency before the the 2024 state elections.
Om Prakash Chautala said he had resigned before also at the behest of farmers and the INLD would do it again if required. Addressing issues in the state, Chautala said that there was a constant shortage of essential necessities in Haryana, and that “people are facing problems for fertilizers and gas cylinders”.
Highlighting the recently concluded Ellenabad by-polls, Chautala reiterated what his son Abhay Chautala said.
Om Prakash Chautala said about the Ellenabad elections, that it was done by the BJP’s “use of money power”, but still people expressed their faith in INLD’s candidate and the INLD-registered victory. Om Prakash Chautala also reacted to the reduction of petrol and diesel prices by the government, saying that the unaccounted price increased earlier, now the government is looting applause by reducing some prices.
After Abhay Chautala, INLD supremo Omprakash Chautala also claimed that Abhay Chautala would resign again if he asked farmers. He was talking to reporters at Jat Dharamshala, Fatehabad on Saturday. “I had resigned in the interest, now if farmers say again then Abhay will resign,” said the INLD supremo while talking to reporters at Jat Dharamshala. He said that the INLD party is with him in the struggle of the farmers. He and Abhay Chautala will go among the farmers and will resign again if the farmers want.
He said that the INLD workers worked hard in the Ellenabad by-election, on the basis of which they won the election, and the workers will work in the same way in the upcoming elections.
On the question of increase in vote percentage by the BJP, he said that INLD’s vote share has also increased. He said, “The government adopted every illegitimate handcuff in this by-election, money was openly run, the government machinery was openly misused. Police made cantonments in villages, yet people did not even allow the people of the ruling party to enter the villages.” He said not only fertilizers, but other items including LPG are not available, the prices of farmers’ crops are getting less and that of the products made from these crops are increasing. He said that the INLD workers would remain connected with the people and would join in their misery and happiness.
He was seen avoiding the question of former Finance Minister Professor Sampat Singh’s growing closeness with the INLD, and said, “Old friends are coming back to INLD, whatever they want, they will do.”
