NEW DELHI: In a groundbreaking move, the Gujarat Police will deploy a security cover entirely composed of women police personnel for a mega event addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8, International Womenโs Day.
This will mark the first such initiative in India.
Speaking on the matter, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi stated, โThe Gujarat police is taking a unique initiative on the occasion of International Womenโs Day.
For the first time in the history of India, only women police will handle the entire security arrangement of the PMโs event โ right from his arrival at the helipad at Vansi Borsi village in Navsari till the event venue.โ
The women personnel involved in the security will include officers from various ranks, such as IPS officers and constables.
The security team will be a massive contingent, including more than 2,100 constables, 187 sub-inspectors, 61 police inspectors, 16 deputy superintendents of police, five SPs, one Inspector General of Police, and one Additional DGP rank officer.
Prime Minister Modi is set to visit Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli for a two-day visit starting on Friday. During his visit, he will address the โLakhpti Didi Sammelanโ in Vansi Borsi village on March 8.
The initiative will be supervised by Senior woman IPS officer and Home Secretary Nipuna Torawane, ensuring that the security arrangements are handled effectively and efficiently.
Sanghavi further emphasized the significance of the move, stating, โThis initiative will give a strong message to the world on Womenโs Day and it will also convey how women are playing an important role in making Gujarat a safe and secure state.โ
This historic step reflects the increasing role of women in ensuring public safety and security, further promoting womenโs empowerment in the state and beyond.
