NEW DELHI: Controversial American professor Amy Wax has once again stoked controversy for her racist and abusive comments — this time targeting Indian immigrants in the US, triggering a huge backlash in India.

Wax, a professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania, in a talk show, said “Blacks” and other “non-western” groups harbor “resentment, shame, and envy” against western countries for their “outsized achievements and contributions” while “their country is a sh**hole”.

Speaking to Tucker Carlson of Fox News, she went on to say it was funny that Indian immigrants were criticising the United States for its racist policies and ridiculed Indians over Brahminism.

“Here’s the problem. They are taught that they are better than everybody else because they are Brahmin elite and at some level, their country is a sh**hole”,” she said.

The objectionable comments by the profession on a national television channel sparked outrage among Indians, with a huge number of people taking to Twitter to vent their ire.

Speaking to The New Indian, Air Marshal (retired) M Matheswaran, a geo-political analyst, called Profession Wax an immature and a “racist bigot” and said that the US would collapse the day its immigrants leave the country.

“There is nothing to be envious about her so-called “First World.” It is a world whose foundations rest on racism, slavery, and colonial exploitation of rest of the world. She is part of that US, which is a settler country built on the worst human rights crimes and abuses in human history, far worse than Germany’s holocaust history,” he said.

Matheswaran further said, “If Indian and other immigrants leave today, the US will collapse. She is a disgrace to the academic fraternity. I wonder who made her a professor.”

Dr Prameela Devi, Kerala State BJP Vice President, said, “Amy Wax has made a serious error. She has blundered when commenting on India and also criticising grameen (rural) women. A scholar shouldn’t have made such nonsensical comments, first of all. Secondly, what we expect from a neurologist is a better understanding of the human thinking process.”

Devi said that Wax comments reflect her ignorance of India’s rich heritage and culture, adding that India never considered any country inferior.

“We are the nation that believes in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the whole world is one family). It’s not only about philosophical stance but our history also proved. We have welcomed people from all nations, all races, irrespective of their faith and orientations. The Jews, hunted and haunted once, came to India seeking shelter. I am sure she (professor Wax) would regret it and withdraw her comment,” she added.
