NEW DELHI: The glory of Indian defence forces is so vast that it can’t be summed up in few words or sentences, said former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in Delhi on Saturday.
Narrating his own story, Deb said that his name ‘Biplab’ means revolution/change and he was named Biplab as he was born on November 25 in 1971 when India was engaged in a war with Pakistan.
Deb was speaking at a programme ‘Symphony of Victory’ organised by Citizen 4 Forces and Rotary Club in Delhi to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war of 1999. About 500 Indian braves had lost their lives protecting the motherland.
Talking about the valour of the Indian defence forces, Deb said, “Whether it is war with Pakistan or China or surgical strike or Balakot, you pick up any and it’s full of valour stories of Indian defence forces.”
In 1999, the Indian government retaliated after Pakistani intruders occupied important locations in Jammu and Kashmir. Following all the provisions of the Geneva Convention, Indian defence forces successfully pulled away the intruders.
Later it was revealed that then Pakistan Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf had planned the intrusion in Jammu and Kashmir.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is on a two-day visit to Jammu & Kashmir to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. Announcing his programme, Defence Minister Singh posted on Twitter “Tomorrow, 24th July, I shall be visiting Jammu to attend a programme commemorating ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’. Looking forward to it.”
Union Minister Smriti Irani will also be visiting Jammu & Kashmir to flag off Tiranga Yatra from the Lal Chowk in Kashmir on Monday. The Yatra will conclude at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras.
The programme in Delhi started with war veterans laying wreaths at Amar Jawan at Central Park, Connaught Place.
War veterans Maj. Gen. (R) Lakhwinder Singh, Brig. (R) Khushal Thakur, Brig. (R) Umesh Bawa, Brig. (R) Amul Asthana, Captain (R) S K Sangwan and Nayak (R) Digendra Kumar participated in the event. MP (Lok Sabha) Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who is a former soldier himself, also participated in the event.
