NEW DELHI: India delivered a commanding performance in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024, securing a 295-run victory over Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth. Led by Bumrah in his first match as captain, India’s potent bowling attack dismantled Australia’s lineup, with standout contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli. This win not only gave India a 1-0 lead in the series but also marked their historic first victory at Optus Stadium.

After a modest first-innings total of 150, India’s bowlers dismantled Australia for just 104, earning a crucial 46-run lead. In the second innings, India’s batsmen showcased their class. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a sensational knock of 161, his best in Test cricket. Virat Kohli followed with a statement-making innings, hammering a century off 143 balls. It was his 30th Test ton and seventh in Australia, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for centuries Down Under.
