NEW DELHI: The recent attacks on the Sikh community in Pakistan have caused concern in India, prompting the Indian government to take action. India has summoned a senior diplomat from the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to express a strong protest against these incidents. The attacks, which have occurred over the past three months, have targeted Sikh individuals residing in Peshawar.
During the meeting with the senior diplomat, the Indian government emphasized the need for Pakistan to ensure the safety and security of its minority communities. The constant fear of religious persecution among minorities was highlighted, and India demanded that Pakistani authorities conduct sincere investigations into the attacks. Furthermore, India requested that the investigation reports be shared with them.

A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs revealed that India has taken decisive action in response to the recent attacks on members of the Sikh community in Pakistan. Following the series of four incidents occurring between April and June 2023, India summoned a senior diplomat from the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi and conveyed a stern protest against these alarming events. The Indian government has expressed deep concern and is taking these incidents very seriously.

The attacks have raised alarm due to the recurring pattern of unknown assailants entering Sikh shops and shooting the shop owners. The local police in Peshawar, after the recent attack on Tarlok Singh, have suggested that these attacks might be targeted killings. It is estimated that around 15,000 Pashtun Sikhs reside in Peshawar and are under constant threat of violence.
