NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh has announced a new policy that will ensure dignity in death for Casual Paid Laborers (CPLs) working with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
Casual labourers play a vital role in road construction in some of the most challenging and remote areas of the country, often working in harsh and unforgiving conditions.
Under the new policy, the government will bear the cost of preserving and transporting the mortal remains of deceased CPLs to their native places. The government will also provide financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to cover funeral expenses.
This is a significant step that recognizes the contributions of CPLs to the BRO’s mission and provides much-needed support to their families in the event of a loved one’s demise.
The defence minister’s decision has been met with appreciation from CPLs and their families. It is a gesture of compassion and respect that will go a long way in supporting these unsung heroes.
