NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah announced the establishment of a “comprehensive” anti-drone unit to address the rising threats posed by drones. Speaking at the 60th Raising Day Parade of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Jodhpur on Sunday, Shah emphasized the growing significance of drone-related challenges and detailed the government’s multi-pronged strategy to counter them.
Amit Shah highlighted that a laser-equipped anti-drone gun mount system has been developed through a “whole government approach” involving all border security forces, the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and various Indian government research departments.
He revealed the system’s effectiveness, noting that 55% of drone intrusions along the International Border with Punjab have been intercepted and neutralized, a significant leap from just 3% earlier. Shah underscored the government’s commitment to establishing the anti-drone unit within a few years to safeguard national security.

The Home Minister also shed light on the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) introduced to enhance surveillance in sensitive border areas. Initial results from the pilot project in Dhubri, Assam, have been promising, and the system will soon be expanded to borders shared with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Efforts to reinforce border security also include strengthening border fencing, constructing new roads, and undertaking critical infrastructure projects. These measures aim to ensure seamless monitoring and rapid response to security breaches.
