In view of the constant decrease in covid 19 infections across the globe, India has lifted the mandatory Covid-19 test for travellers arriving from or via six countries- China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand and Japan, the Health Ministry confirmed on Monday. The mandate to upload the ‘Air Suvidha’ form for such travellers has also been done away with.

This would mean travellers coming to India from these six countries will no longer have to fulfil the requirement of a ‘negative RT-PCR report from a pre-departure test for COVID-19.

Pre-boarding RT-PCR tests were made mandatory in the last guidelines issued by the ministry in the wake of rising covid cases globally.

Foreigners from these countries will not be filling out the ‘self-health declaration form’ on the Air Suvidha portal either.

A letter in this regard was sent to Rajiv Bansal, Secretary, of the Ministry of Civil Aviation by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan. However, the ongoing two per cent random testing of travellers landing in India will still continue like earlier.

The mandatory random covid testing was halted in November following a sharp decrease in cases especially in India. However, it was again reintroduced in late December following a tremendous escalation in covid infection in China and its neighbouring countries.

The letter reads says, “In order to monitor infections due to mutated variants of SARS-CoV-2 among international travellers to India, the present exercise of random testing of two per cent of travellers irrespective of their country of origin upon arrival in India shall continue.”

India today registered 74 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. India’s present active caseload currently stands at 1,818 with a percentage that stands at 0.01%.

91.72 cr total tests conducted so far with 1,27,835 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
93 recoveries in the last 24 hours which increases total recoveries to 4,41,51,703.
