Summary

Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi, at the 58th UNHRC session, denounced Pakistan’s human rights record and reaffirmed India’s sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir. Tyagi highlighted significant advancements in the region and criticized Pakistan’s focus on India instead of addressing its own crises.

SRINAGAR: A senior Indian diplomat made waves at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session, strongly criticizing Pakistan’s track record on human rights and governance.

At the seventh session of the 58th UNHRC meeting, Kshitij Tyagi, representing India’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, denounced Pakistan’s credibility, stating that its state policies are built on human rights violations, suppression of minorities, and a systematic decline of democratic values.

“It is disappointing to witness Pakistan’s leadership persistently peddling distortions orchestrated by its military-backed terror apparatus. The country has reduced the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to a mere propaganda tool, misusing its platform for baseless allegations,” Tyagi asserted.

He further criticized Pakistan’s obsession with India, calling it a failed state dependent on instability and global aid for survival.

Reaffirming India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir, Tyagi stated that the regions of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh would forever remain an integral part of India. He highlighted the significant political, social, and economic advancements in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, underscoring them as proof of the people’s faith in the government’s efforts to restore normalcy after decades of cross-border terrorism.

“Pakistan would be better served addressing the crises affecting its own citizens rather than fixating on India,” Tyagi remarked.

His remarks echoed those of India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, who on February 19, reaffirmed India’s sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at the UN Security Council’s Open Debate on Multilateralism and Global Governance Reforms, Harish condemned Pakistan’s disinformation campaigns, asserting that Jammu and Kashmir is and will always be an inalienable part of India.
